About Simon Hill

Simon is a freelance writer, editor and content strategist. He has a keen interest in technology and keeps up with the latest releases in terms of devices, apps and games. He covers industry trends, writes reviews, comparisons and roundups for a variety of print and online publications.

He started off in the games industry as a Lead Tester at VIS Entertainment where he was responsible for quality assurance on a number of video games and software products. He managed multiple test teams and co-ordinated with publishers like Rockstar to release titles like State of Emergency. This also involved working with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo to ensure each game release met their technical requirements.

He then spent several years at Outerlight working as a Designer and Producer. Simon was responsible for generating new game designs, building a development team, setting up a workflow, scheduling, budgeting and day to day management of the studio. He worked closely with Valve, presenting at the Valve Developer Conference, and Outerlight’s first game, The Ship, was one of the first releases on the Steam platform. He also worked closely with publisher, Ubisoft, on Outerlight’s second game Bloody Good Time.

In addition to console and PC games he generated designs for mobile games. He was also involved in app and game development on the Android platform and still has strong ties to a number of app developers.

He is a regular contributor for Beckett Media's Phone Apps magazines, he served as the Managing Editor for the Mobile channels at Bright Hub and he has covered mobile tech for websites like HTCpedia and Gizmoactive. He has also covered video games for websites such as Bit-Tech, Boom Town, The List and on his own gaming blog, Frankengamer.

He is passionate about mobile technology, consumer electronics and video games and enjoys covering everything from the latest mobile patent suit in the courts to the greatest smart TV release. Tutorials for newbies, tips for power users, buying guides for smartphones, apps or games – whatever your content needs, he can provide crisp, enticing copy that will capture your intended audience.
